Melissa Parker - 1st Runner-Up

1.Tell us why anyone would want come to your hometown?
Ah…this is something my husband and I love to say while speaking for our non-profit, The Parker Foundation. Whether it’s to our student volunteer buddies, or to our community leaders at a charity event – we challenge everyone to “be the change” and help those in need by sharing their unique talents, time, or resources to help bring people of all abilities together and strengthen our world.

2.What are the (2) most important things in your closet and why?
Ted is a dynamic person with a big personality; he makes fast friends wherever we go. A born leader, he believes in hard work and helping to make the world a better place by providing jobs and giving back in our community. Ted loves sports and can often be found mentoring and coaching children of all abilities through The Parker Foundation. He’s a wonderful husband and father, and a great cook too!

3.What do you love to cook and why?
My Great-Uncle Rob Roy Doss was a retired captain and Chief Surgeon in the U.S. Navy; he and my Great-Aunt Evie lived on 500 acres of land which was part of Raven’s Point Plantation along John’s Island in South Carolina. My father would take us to visit as a child; I enjoyed hearing about our family history and exploring the beautiful property – it was quite magical and a memory I would love to revisit.

4.If you had an extra hour each day, what would you do?
Fun and friendly, with a variety of friends from many different groups since I played sports and took a lot of art classes. I believe they would say I was a kind, courteous person who treated others as I would like to be treated, and that I was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need.

5.Describe the dirtiest job you have ever had to do?
One sure fire way to get my husband to slow down and relax is on our boat. If money were no object, I would buy him the boat of his dreams with a cabin so that we could take longer trips with our two children, entertain family and friends, and explore the beautiful coastlines of Florida and beyond.
